From year to year the number of amateur filmmakers is growing. In 1965 Super 8 was added as a new amateur film format. You no longer have to master film technology - put the Super 8 cassette in the camera and the rest runs automatically. This turns film as a hobby into a mass medium. The proportion of Normal 8 filmmakers is rapidly declining and only a few amateurs still film on the expensive 16mm format.
