The war years 1939-1945

Even during the war years, German film amateurs grabbed their cameras. Initially to record the blitzkriegs against Poland and France. With the occupation of France, the 9.5 format also played a role for German amateurs for the first time. Many bought their film equipment as occupation soldiers and officers in France. In the war against the Soviet Union, they recorded everything - from the advance to the war of annihilation. They didn't care if filming might be banned. US pilots filmed their machine gun attacks on trains, cars and everything else that moved on the ground with their onboard cameras.
